The State Compensation Insurance Fund, commonly referred to as the State Fund, is a workers' compensation insurer that was created by the State of California. The state requires that the State Fund be headquartered in San Francisco, but there are regional offices in Los Angeles, Pleasanton, Fresno, and EI Monte.

Many companies in California find it difficult to obtain workers' compensation insurance for many reasons. The State Fund will provide insurance coverage for every business and has been referred to as an insurer of last resort.
